THE THREE PHASES
OF A PROPHET
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
PHASES AND STAGES ARE
NOT THE SAME THING
THE FOUR PHASES
Seed, Root, Branch, Fruit. This is the prophetic framework, the cycle you move through within your prophetic calling and method.
THE THREE STAGES
Blessed, Broken, Bestowed. This is a life framework, how you navigate relationship, community, and the warfare of everyday living, not just ministry.
WHY THIS MATTERS
YOU CAN FINISH THE 4 PHASES
AND STILL BE STUCK HERE
It is possible to move through all four phases of prophetic development and remain stuck in one of these three stages. The phases tell you where you are in your prophetic journey. The stages tell you where you are in life, in a relationship, and in a community. These stages are derived from Christ's actions during the Last Supper, where He blessed the bread, broke the bread, and distributed the bread.
These three stages are not a one-time event. They form a repeating cycle, blessing, breaking, bestowing, and back again. Every new level of calling brings another turn of the same cycle, and another level of warfare to match it.
"BLESS, BREAK, BESTOW. Know where you are in the journey. "
THE FRAMEWORK
A CYCLE, NOT A LADDER
BLESSED
BROKEN
BESTOWED
The cycle repeats. Every promotion brings another turn of blessing, breaking, and bestowing.
STAGE 01
THE BLESSED STAGE
This is the stage where things simply work. Not only in ministry, but as a person. Life feels good, provision flows, relationships are stable, and you find yourself thanking God often. The life of Moses in Pharaoh's palace is presented as an example of blessing. Moses enjoyed education, privilege, influence, and prosperity. Similarly, prophetic individuals may experience periods of success, growth, and visible favour. It is a real and legitimate stage, not a counterfeit one.
The danger is not the blessing itself. The danger is forgetting that this stage is temporary, and using it as the foundation for ministry rather than as a season to learn the skills you will need for what comes next.
The blessing is not intended merely for enjoyment. It is also a season of preparation. Skills, wisdom, and disciplines acquired during blessing become necessary during future seasons of difficulty. Failure to learn during blessing often leaves individuals unprepared for subsequent challenges.
A Caution for This Stage
Never establish a ministry from your blessed stage alone. It is not your permanent address, it is provision for the road ahead. What you learn here, including discipline and the disciplines you build in private, becomes the strength you draw on once breaking begins.
STAGE 02
THE BROKEN STAGE
Breaking is the stage that refines character rather than punishing YOU. It is not God being unjust; it is God preparing you to carry weight you cannot yet carry. The breaking stage is presented as an essential component of spiritual formation. Just as bread must be broken before it can be distributed, prophetic individuals often undergo seasons that dismantle self-reliance, pride, and misplaced confidence.
A Necessary Distinction
There is a real difference between God breaking you and the consequences of poor choices. One calls for endurance and long suffering. The other calls for repentance. Asking for strength when repentance is what's needed will leave a person stuck, mistaking a consequence for a trial.
In this stage, character is shaped for what's ahead. People who once stood close may distance themselves. The instruction is not to harden the heart in response, but to remain teachable, slow to speak, and willing to keep going.
Moses' forty years in Midian illustrate this stage. Having experienced privilege and influence, he entered a prolonged period of obscurity, preparation, and personal transformation before fulfilling his assignment.
True breaking differs from self-inflicted hardship because its purpose is formation rather than punishment. It develops character, dependence upon God, perseverance, and spiritual depth.
Metanoia means a change of mind, the New Testament word for repentance. It is the right response to a consequence of poor choices, distinct from long suffering, which is the right response to genuine, God ordained breaking. Knowing which one you are facing changes how you pray.
STAGE 03
THE BESTOWED STAGE
Bestowing is the stage of being given to others. Everything learned in blessing and tested in breaking is now carried by, and given for, the people. This stage is often assumed to be the easiest, since the hardship of breaking is behind it, but it carries its own distinct weight.
The purpose of the breaking stage was never simply to humble a person. It was to build the capacity needed to carry a community well once that community is entrusted to them.
Didōmi means to give or bestow, the word behind John 3:16, God so loved the world that he gave. Bestowing is not the reward at the end of a season, it is the act of giving away what blessing supplied and breaking refined.
WORDS TO CARRY WITH YOU
MEMORABLE STATEMENTS
"There is a difference between God breaking you and your poor life choices breaking you."
"Whenever God is breaking a man, he is not breaking your heart, he is refining your character."
"You don't need a crowd. You need a cloud."
"No brokenness, no fragrance."
Every stage you find yourself in carries a purpose. Blessing teaches you to trust God's goodness. Breaking refines character rather than punishing it. Bestowing entrusts you with people, because what you survived was never only for you.
