BROOK SCHOOL

OF PROPHETS

Foundational teachings on the prophetic for those who are interested in biblical teachings on the prophetic and the life of the prophet.

WHAT THIS IS

UNDERSTANDING

THE PROPHETIC

Do you have questions about the prophetic? Are you called to the prophetic but feeling lost for where? The Prophetic Academy was designed for you. This series of teachings is designed to give you a foundational understanding of the prophetic. To help you build a solid understanding of the journey God is taking you through.

We provide theological and hermeneutical insight into what it means to be a prophet and to be prophetic.

We give language to what God is already doing in your life.

תַּלְמִיד
Talmid — Hebrew

Talmid means disciple or student, someone who follows closely enough to be shaped, not just informed. The rabbis of old expected a talmid to walk in the dust of their teacher.

START WHERE EVERY SEED STARTS

BEGIN WITH
THE SEED PHASE

ἡγέομαι
Hēgeomai — Greek
"Prophet" — To lead, to guide, to govern, to go before

The Greek word hēgeomai literally means "to go before" and was often used of leaders who guided others by example rather than mere authority. It appears in passages such as Hebrews 13:7 and 13:17 regarding spiritual leaders. The word highlights leadership as influence through character, wisdom, and responsibility. For believers, hēgeomai reminds us that true leadership is not about status or control but about setting a godly example that others can follow. It empowers leaders to walk with integrity, knowing that people are more likely to follow what they see than what they hear.

ΠΟΙΜΉΝ
Poimēn — Greek
"Shepherd / Pastor" — The One Who Tends and Guards

Poimēn is the Greek word for shepherd, translated "pastor" in Ephesians 4. A shepherd in the ancient world was not a passive caretaker. They led from the front, fought off predators, searched for the lost, and bound up the wounded. They knew each sheep by name. Pastoral leadership at The Brook Place carries this weight — not management of a congregation, but true shepherding of souls.

כָּבוֹד
Kavod — Hebrew
"Honour / Glory" — The Weight a Leader Carries

Kavod means weight or heaviness, and is used to describe both human honour and the glory of God. To honour your leaders is not flattery — it is a spiritual act with covenant consequences. In 1 Timothy 5:17 Paul writes that elders who lead well are worthy of double honour. The kavod you place on those God has set over you is an act of faith in the God who appointed them.

ΠΑΤΉΡ
Patēr — Greek
"Father" — The Spirit of Sonship in Ministry

Paul distinguishes in 1 Corinthians 4:15 between those who instruct and those who father. You may have many teachers, he says, but not many fathers. Patēr is the word for father — it describes the one who not only imparts knowledge but imparts nature. The fathering spirit in this house is what makes The Brook Place a family and not merely a ministry. True apostolic fathering releases sons and daughters into their own authority.
