ΚΉΡΥΓΜΑ
Kērygma — Greek / New Testament
Kērygma is the Greek word for proclamation — the public, authoritative announcement of a herald. It is not casual conversation or personal opinion; it is the declaration of news that demands a response. Every sermon preached at The Brook Place carries the spirit of kērygma — not a suggestion offered for consideration, but the proclaimed Word of the King, sent to be heard and obeyed.

THE WORD BEHIND THE WORD

WHAT SCRIPTURE SAYS
ABOUT PREACHING

ΛΌΓΟΣ
Logos — Greek
"Word" — The Living, Active Message

In John 1:1, Logos describes Christ himself — the Word made flesh. But the same word describes Scripture and sound teaching throughout the New Testament. Hebrews 4:12 says the logos of God is living and active. When the Word is preached rightly, it does not merely inform — it acts upon the hearer.

דָּבָר
Dabar — Hebrew
"Word / Thing" — Speech That Creates Reality

Dabar means both "word" and "thing" in Hebrew — a striking overlap. In Hebrew thought, a spoken word is not separate from the reality it describes; it carries creative force. God said, and it was. When the dabar of the Lord goes forth from a pulpit, it is not background noise. It is substance, sent to accomplish what it was sent to do.

ΠΑΡΡΗΣΊΑ
Parrēsia — Greek
"Boldness" — Preaching Without Apology

The early church prayed for parrēsia — boldness — to preach the Word despite threat and opposition (Acts 4:29-31). True preaching has never been about being inoffensive. It is the bold, unedited proclamation of truth, delivered in love but never diluted by fear of man.
